Philippe LONZI: From Inventor to Steel Artist

Born in Paris, Philippe LONZI has always nurtured a thirst for independence and technical understanding. After studies he felt were too standardized, he forged his own path as a self‑taught learner, mastering electricity, mechanics, and electronics through practice. At 23, his innovative mindset led him to found and grow a national electronic‑surveillance company. His entire career was driven by the quest for what did not yet exist, resulting in several patents.

His encounter with Art marked the true turning point. Drawing on his material expertise, Philippe naturally turned to steel to create his own contemporary works, playing with the metal’s shadows and reflections, as in his emblematic sculpture Iron Drop. Buoyed by the success of his first exhibitions, he decided to leave the technical world to devote himself fully to his vocation as a sculptor.

Today, Philippe LONZI is the author of more than 600 works in sheet steel, a reputation strong enough that he is easily found when one is looking for a sculptor for a commission.
